Antenna Experimentation A Success

Can You Hear Me?After working on landscaping on Saturday (22 August) I decided that Sunday would be a "radio antenna day" because the branch that supported my ham radio HF (shortwave) antenna in the large Silver Maple located in my yard fell, taking the antenna and some rope with it.  I won't be able to put that antenna back up without the help of the tree service because there is a jumbled mess of branches higher up there.  To ensure that I'm able to communicate long distances, especially in emergency, my experiments begun.

International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend

Join the Metro Amateur Radio Club for an International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend event on Saturday, August 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Evanston's Grosse Point Lighthouse (2601 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL  60201).  We'll have an amateur radio station set up and try to contact as many other lighthouses/lightships as possible.  The intent of the weekend is to increase public awareness about the importance of lighthouse/lightship preservation and of amateur radio.  Who knows...you might even talk to someone far, far away.

EchoLink Node 44686 Down

Anyone that may have tried to use the EchoLink node in the last few days probably noticed that it's down.  Windows XP hiccuped and I noticed that 147.435 was quiet.  I couldn't access the machine remotely, so I powered it off using the power button.  Unfortunately I won't have time to look at it for a few days.  Check out http://www.echolink.org/ for alternative nodes.  I apologize for any inconvenience.
